Fue fundado en 1592 por los indios tlaxcaltecas, llegados a este territorio a finales del año anterior y asentados junto a los indios guachichiles en el “Puesto de San Luis”. Los franciscanos fundaron el convento en 1605, el cual fue adoptado por los indios como su parroquia, al dejar de fungir el templo de San Francisco como tal.

Su fiesta patronal se celebra durante el mes de agosto.

It was founded in 1592 by the tlaxcaltecan indians, which had arrived to this territory the year before and settled together with the guachichiles at “Puesto de San Luis”.  The franciscan monks founded their convent in 1605, being this adopted by the indians as their parish, once St. Francis’ temple was not used as such anymore.

Its patron saints’ feast is celebrated during August.
