Este hermoso edificio de arquitectura barroca fue construido para recaudar el quinto de los metales que correspondían al Rey de España. Fue también comisaría, aduana, residencia de gobernadores y residencia episcopal, por lo que en mosaico se lee el nombre de la calle como “Calle del Obispado”.  

En un nicho se encuentra la escultura en piedra de la Purísima, obsequio del Rey Carlos III de España a la ciudad.  Actualmente lo ocupa  la Universidad Autónoma de San Luis Potosí, como centro cultural.

This beautiful baroque buiding was constructed to collect the precious metal percentage corresponding to the King of Spain.  It served as police station, customs office, governors’ house and episcopal residence.  For this last reason, the street was named “Calle del Obispado”, which means Bishop Street.

In one of its niches we can appreciate the stone sculpture representing our Lady of the Immaculate Conception “La Purísima”, which was a gift made by King Charles III of Spain to the city.  At present, the building belongs to our State University and it is used as a cultural site.
