Ocupa el edificio que construyeron los jesuitas para su colegio, del que perdura el patio central con sus cuatro corredores, siendo una de las construcciones más antiguas de la ciudad.  Fue fundado como Instituto Científico y Literario en 1861. Su fachada fue renovada totalmente  entre 1871 – 1872. Actualmente  es sede de la Rectoría de la Universidad Autónoma de San Luis Potosí. Su estilo es neoclásico.

Of neoclassic style and founded as a scientific and literary institute in 1851, this was the Jesuit Catholic boys’ school. At present, the building holds San Luis Potosí’s Public University rectory and main offices.  The central patio with its four corridors still remains and it constitutes one of the oldest buildings in town.  Its façade was completely renewed between 1871 and 1872.
