Fue construida por los religiosos Juaninos, quienes además levantaron el hospital de la ciudad, ya desaparecido. Su construcción data de principios del siglo XVII. Esta iglesia llegó a ser una de las mejores y más costosas del pueblo. Cuenta con frescos del pintor Luis Fernando Leal. En su jardín se levanta el Monumento a la Independencia.

This church was built by the congregation of St. John, who also constructed the old city hospital (which does not exist anymore). It dates to the beginning of the XVII Century and was one of the most luxurious churches in town.  It holds fresco paintings by Luis Fernando Leal as well as the Independence Monument, which stands on its garden.
